Hester McClymonds (Ailes) Abbuhl, 70, died at home with family and friends in Northport Sept. 4, 2010, after a brief illness.

Hester was born April 28, 1940, in Morgantown, W. Va., to Helen Wales and Stephen Ailes. Hester was raised in Bethesda, Md., where she graduated from Holten Arms School. She attended Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., as well as West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.

In adition to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, Hester was proud to be the proprietor of The Scribe. Anyone who knew Hester knew her to love people, to be a generous friend and to go out of her way to help others. Hester was very active in the community and her church, whether in Great Falls, Va., McCormick, S.C., or Northport. She had a wonderful gift of compassion for people and touched many lives wherever she was.

Hester is survived by her loving husband, Willmott “Bill” Abbuhl, of Northport; a daughter, Susan, and her husband, Scott Ward, of Delray, W. Va.; a son, Michael Nettles, and his wife, Violet, of Manassas Park, Va.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa and Angelina Ward, all of Delray, W. Va.; three brothers, Stephen Ailes, Walter Ailes, both of Martinsburg, W. Va., and Richard Ailes of Camden.

At Hester’s wish, she was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
