Wednesday proved a mixed bag of results for local high school boys soccer teams, with the majority of the squads in action.

Belfast was the lone Midcoast winner on the pitch, with the Lions defeating Nokomis of Newport 5-1. Additionally, Rockland dropped a 3-1 decision to Lincoln Academy of Necastle, Searsport fell to Bucksport 7-1 and Georges Valley lost to Wiscasset 2-1.

Belfast 5, Nokomis 1 … At Newport, the Lions (2-0) rattled off four goals in the second half and won by the same margin as they pulled away from the host Warriors for their second win of the season.

Yani Rakis had two goals and an assist for Belfast, scoring with 31:03 left in the first half and again with 35:43 remaining in the second half. Scott Kulikowski added a goal and two assists in the win, while Tyler Baker and Carson Beck also creased the net for Belfast. Darius Bryant scored the lone goal for Nokomis with 6:53 left in the second half.

Eric Gaulin had eight saves in net for Belfast, while Nokomis keeper Thomas Bachelder made 20 stops. The Lions outshot the Warriors 39-9 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Lincoln Academy 3, Rockland 1 … At Newcastle, the Eagles benefited from three straight goals in the second half and held the Tigers (0-2) at bay en route to a two-goal victory.

Connor Pfister broke a scoreless tie with 20 minutes left in regulation for the Tigers, but Lincoln Academy responded minutes later to tie the game. The hosts then added two more goals over the game’s final 13 minutes to preserve the win.

Goalie Nate Boggs made six saves for the Tigers. Rockland outshot Lincoln Academy 14-8 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Rockland coach Josh Mahar credited Lincoln Academy’s goalie, whose name was unavailable, adding that he had a tremendous effort in net.

Wiscasset 2, Georges Valley 1 … At Wiscasset, the Buccaneers (0-1) and Redskins battled through a tie for nearly 60 minutes before the hosts creased the net in the waning minutes to narrowly pull out the victory.

Ashton Benn scored the first goal for Wiscasset with 25:01 remaining in the first half, while Cy McGeady found teammate Dakota Smith on a header with 24:43 left to tally the equalizer for the Buccaneers. The two teams then battled back and forth until John McLeod tallied the game winner with 5:26 left in regulation.

Keeper Tyler Gilson made nine saves for Georges Valley, while Mason Benner made six stops in net for Wiscasset. The Redskins held a 13-7 edge in shots over the Bucs and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
