A 73-year-old driver who told police she was run off the road by an unknown vehicle escaped the ordeal with a minor injury the morning of Sept. 9.

Janice M. Tucker of Montville was headed east on Route 3 at about 9:30 a.m. in her 1996 Toyota when, according to the accident report at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, an unknown vehicle passed. When the vehicle moved back into the lane it reportedly struck Tucker’s car.

Tucker then over-corrected, sending her vehicle into a skid across the westbound lane and into a guardrail. The vehicle continued skidding alongside the guardrail, striking it again once more before she regained control of her car.

According to police, Tucker continued driving for about two miles with a bent rim and a flat tire, until she arrived at her destination, where she contacted police. Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy James Porter responded.

The accident caused an estimated $2,000 in damages to Tucker’s Toyota, and an additional $5,000 in damage to the guardrail. The police report says Tucker told the officer that she suffered a minor shoulder injury as a result of the accident, but she was not taken to a hospital.

Tucker described the vehicle as being either a car or minivan that was green. Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact police at 338-2040.
