Donald W. Hawes, 81, died Sept. 8, 2010, in Bangor.

He was born in Portland July 19, 1929, a son of Willis and Lillian (Todd) Hawes. He served as second lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. He received his bachelor’s degree from Boston University and his master’s degree from Northeastern University.

Donald had worked many years as an advertising manager and in his later years for the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Association of Industrial Advertisers, where he served as secretary and director; the Advertising Federation of America; Alpha Delta Sigma, an advertising fraternity, and the Order of DeMolay. One of his proud moments was becoming an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.

Donald was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Cheryl (Hawes) Blommel.

He is survived by his companion, Gloria Gratia Danielson, of Northport; two sons, David Christian Hawes of Jamaica Plain, Mass., and Douglas Alan Hawes of Centerville, Ohio; a brother, Richard Manning Hawes, of Myrtle Beach, N.C.;and two grandchildren, Nicholas Blommel of Fairborn, Ohio, and Leigh-Ann (Blommel) Sarkis of Columbus, Ohio.

A memorial service and burial of cremated remains will be held at the convenience of the family.
