Hope Chaples, 90, died in Amherst, Mass., Sept. 9, 2010.

She was born in Belfast April 7, 1920, a daughter of John and Rebecca (Leader) Chalmers. She worked at Truitt Bros. in earlier years and then as an executive secretary in banking in Massachusetts. Hope was a caring, loving woman who enjoyed baking for her family, canning and tending her flower gardens. She also enjoyed spending time with the family at camp singing and looking out over the water.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Chaples, and nine siblings.

Hope is survived by  two daughters, Susan Chaples and Patricia Ouimette, both of Ware, Mass.; three grandchildren, Lisa Oiumette, Derek Oiumette and Brett Ouimette; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jason, Drew, Hunter and Sadie; two nieces, Judy Warren and her husband, Forrest, and Janice Hawthorne and her husband, John, all of Belfast; and several other nieces.

Visiting hours were held Sept. 11 at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, and were followed by a funeral service. Interment was at Grove Cemetery, Belfast.
