The high school fall season is beginning to hit its stride, with many Midcoast squads in action on the soccer pitch and golf course Monday afternoon.

Both the Rockland and Camden Hills girls soccer squads were victorious in matches, while the Mount View and Georges Valley boys soccer teams also secured victories on the pitch.

On the links, Belfast prevailed in its match with Waldo County rival Mount View.

Girls Soccer

Rockland 2, Mount View 0 … At Thorndike, the visiting Tigers (1-2-1) secured their first win of the campaign with a two-goal victory over the Mustangs (0-4). Paige Bradshaw and Bethany Berry each creased the net for Rockland.

Goalie Danessa McDonald made seven saves in net for the Tigers, while keeper Amanda Larrabee also had seven stops for the ‘Stangs. Rockland outshot Mount View 13-10 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Leavitt 4, Medomak Valley 2 … At Turner, the visiting Panthers (1-2) were doubled up by the host Hornets and fell by two goals. Alanna Vose had a goal and an assist for Medomak Valley, while Kasey Benner also creased the net for the visitors. Bri Hammond scored two goals for Leavitt, while Jenna Cote and Maria Treadwell also found the net for the hosts.

Goalie Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet made 10 saves for the Panthers, while keeper Kelly Pomerleau made six saves for the Hornets. Leavitt also outshot Medomak Valley 14-8.

Camden Hills 4, Winslow 1…At Winslow, the Windjammers (4-0) defeated the Black Raiders for the first time in five years and did so in convincing fashion over the hosts. Caroline Matteo knotted a goal and an assist for the Windjammers, while Melanie Vangel, Kristina Alex and Christine Forcillo also scored for the visitors. Haley Williams also added an assist for Camden Hills.

Lindsay Bumbalo has six saves on seven shots for the Windjammers, who outshot the hosts 10-7.

Boys soccer

Georges Valley 4, Winthrop 2 … At Thomaston, the Bucs (1-2) fell behind early but rallied and earned their first win of the campaign. Josh Badell, Drew Townsend, Gordon Armstrong and Cody Poland each creased the net for Georges Valley, while the names of the goal scorers for Winthrop were unavailable.

Tyler Gilson turned away four of six shots he face in net for the Buccaneers, while Cameron MacMillian made nine saves on 13 shots for the Ramblers. The hosts also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Mount View 6, Rockland 0 … At Rockland, the Mustangs (2-2) clung to a 1-0 lead after the first 40 minutes of play, only to explode out of the gate in the second half for five unanswered goals en route to the rout of the winless Tigers (0-4).

Aaron Elkins had a hat trick for the ‘Stangs, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Zach Mehuren and Alec Davis each added a goal and an assist in the victory, while James Philbrick also added a goal. Cody Downer also assisted on two scores and Tim Bennett one.

Goalie Chris Montminy made four saves for Mount View, while keeper Nate Boggs turned away six shots for Rockland. The Mustangs outshot the hosts 16-7, while the Tigers held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Leavitt 2, Medomak Valley 0 … At Waldoboro, the host Panthers (0-3) could not keep the visiting Hornets at bay and fell by two goals. Tyler Allen scored for the visitors 21 seconds into the contest, while teammate Korey Mulherin added another tally at the 29:36-mark of the first half.

Keeper Robbie Griffin made eight saves for the Panthers, while goalie Sam Godfrey had five saves for the Hornets. Leavitt outshot Medomak Valley 10-8, while both squads attempted two corner kicks.

Deer Isle-Stonington 3, Searsport 1 … At Searsport, the Vikings (0-3) fell behind early to the Mariners and never recovered as they fell by a two-goal margin. Jim Chase scored the lone goal for the host Vikings on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the contest.

Patrick Duddy, Brett Gagne and Brandon Cote all creased the net for the Mariners. Goalie Austin Bean made nine saves in net for the Vikings, while keeper Hayden Torrey turned away 10 shots for the Mariners. Deer Isle-Stonington outshot Searsport 19-12 and held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.


Belfast 7, Mount View 2 … At Country View Golf Course in Brooks, the visiting Lions (4-1) roared past the host Mustangs (0-4) and continued their strong play on the links. Belfast’s top four golfers outscored Mount View 161-188 for the nine-hole match, while Mustang Colby Blanchard (36) was the medalist.

The individual results, with Lions listed first, were: Jamie Jackson (37) lost to Blanchard (36); Stephen Simmons (39) defeated Eric Larrabee (41); Tim Sticht (44) defeated Zach Holman (53); Tyler McDevitt (46) defeated Dan Muther (74); Dustin Howes (41) defeated Owen Freeman (58); and Allie Njaa (68) fell to Dash Albright (61).

In junior varsity play, Jack Smith (57) lost to Montana Maynard (51), while Grant Starrett (57) bested Joel Poulin (62).
