The soccer pitch proved a busy place Wednesday afternoon with many local teams in action. Ultimately, the outcomes proved a mixed bag for local squads.

For the boys, Camden Hills and Searsport earned wins, with the Vikings breaking into the victory column for the first time. Mount View of Thorndike forged a tie with Nokomis of Newport, while Belfast also dropped a 2-1 decision to Maranacook of Readfield and Georges Valley was nipped by Telstar of Bethel 4-3.

For the girls, Camden Hills earned a 2-1 win over Leavitt, while Mount View dropped a 4-3 decision to Nokomis.

Boys Soccer

Camden Hills 6, Leavitt 0 … At Turner, the visiting Windjammers continued their strong play on both sides of the ball and claimed a victory over the Hornets. Malcolm Steele netted two goals for the ‘Jammers, while Sam Predham added a goal and two assists. Andrew Flanagan (goal, assist), Vinny Kwiatkowski (goal), Andy Stevick (goal), Nick Murphy (assist) and Joe Bartlett (assist) also contributed offensively.

Ian Cushing made one save on one shot in net for Camden Hills, while Sam Godfrey made eight saves on 14 shots for Leavitt. The Windjammers also held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

“Today was a hard-fought contest,” said Camden Hills coach Ryan Hurley. “Leavitt played some spirited soccer and were well organized, but [we] played well together and took advantage of our opportunities. We also played good team defense. We’ll need to continue to play our best soccer in order to beat Maranacook Friday [Sept. 17] and Winslow on Saturday [Sept. 18]. Both are also undefeated, [and] it should be some of the best KVAC [Class] B action of the year.”

The Windjammers (4-0, 6.7857 points) are fourth in the latest Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B. Presque Isle (4-0-1, 19.5153 points) is the top team in the 18-team region.

Mount View 2, Nokomis 2 … At Newport, the Mustangs (2-2-1) rallied in the second half and salvaged a tie with the host Warriors (0-3-1). James Philbrick scored both goals for the ‘Stangs, creasing the net at the 26:10-mark of the first half and tying the game with 6:21 remaining in regulation. Jared Seamans and Darius Bryant each scored first-half goals for the Warriors.

Chris Montminy made six saves in net for Mount View, while Thomas Batchelder turned away seven shots for Newport. The Mustangs outshot Nokomis 17-10 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mustangs (2-2-1, 2.9464 points) are 11th in the latest MPA Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, while Presque Isle (4-0-1, 19.5153 points) is the top team in the 18-team region.

Searsport 12, Acadia Christian 0 … At Searsport, the Vikings (1-3) secured their first win of the season and did so in convincing fashion against the visitors.

Will Hutchinson had a hat trick for the hosts, while Jake Kenniston chipped in with two goals for Searsport. Darren Harriman (goal, 3 assists), Zac Beaudry (goal), Jason Brooks (goal), Shayne Austin (goal), Dustin Kenney (goal), Dallas Rhines (goal), Austin Bean (goal) and Tim Chase (2 assists) also got in on the offense for Searsport.

Goalies Bean and Hutchinson combined to turn away six shots for Searsport, while keeper Seth Macko made nine saves for Acadia Christian. The Vikings also outshot the visitors 27-6.

The Vikings (1-3, 0.7143 points) are 15th in the latest MPA Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class C, while Madawaska (6-3, 33.8010 points) is the top team in the 18-team region.

Telstar 4, Georges Valley 3 … At Thomaston, the Bucs were nipped by the host Rebels. It is not only the Bucs third loss of the season, but the third time the squad fell by one goal.

Josh Badell scored twice for Georges Valley, while Drew Townsend added the other Buc tally and Kyle Robinson added an assist. Tyler Gilson made two saves for Georges Valley. The Bucs outshot Telstar 15-9 and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Buccaneers (1-3, 1.7857 points) are 11th in the latest MPA Heal Point Standings for Western Class C, while Wiscasset (4-0, 12.5000 points) is the top team in the 15-team region.

Girls Soccer

Nokomis 4, Mount View 3 … At Thorndike, the Warriors scored four goals in the second half, which proved enough to hold off the host Mustangs. Kelsey Higgins, Kaitlyn Leavitt and Cheyenne Cassidy all scored for the ‘Stangs, while goal scorers for the Warriors were unavailable.

Amanda Larrabee minded the net for the hosts, turning away 18 shots. E. Reynolds made three saves for the visitors. The Warriors outshot the Mustangs 22-9 and doubled up Mount View 6-3 in corner kicks.

The Mustangs (0-5, no points) are 18th (last) in the latest MPA Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B. Caribou (5-0-1, 24.4260 points) is the top team in the region.
