While high school athletics have been running rampant the past few weeks throughout the Midcoast, the high school sports stars of the future also have been sparkling bright over the past week as the Busline League is in full swing with many middle school games/meets taking place.

Cross country

At Waldoboro Sept. 13, the Rockland District Middle School and Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta squared off at Medomak Middle School, which saw varying results for both teams.The Cougar boys came away with a 24-27 win over the Eagles, while the Eagle girls defeated the Cougars 27-29.

Rockland’s Nick Mahar and Riley Simmons took the top places as the athletes ran a 2.1-mile course.

The individual Eagle boys results were: 1, Mahar, 13:30; 3, Dylen Mahonen, 14:57; 9, Curran Grant, 18:46; 11, Daly Winterich, 18:56.4; and 13, Max Yankura, 22:17.

The individual Eagle girls results were: 1, Simmons 15:45; 2, Brianna White-Ortiz, 16:09; 7, Sophie Hall, 19:04; 8, Ainsley Meklin, 19:54; 9, Ashley Pezanowski, 21:34; and 10, Alyssa Williams, 21:57.

Boys Soccer

Camden-Rockport Middle School 5, Rockland District Middle School 0 … At CRMS Sept. 14, the Schooners cruised to a three-goal victory over the visiting Eagles. The Schooners had goals by Jack Gallagher, Kienan Brown, Jamie Zanca, Quinn Holt and Nick Walker, while CRMS coach Martin Rogers said Josiah Farrell and Adam Hamilton played outstanding defense for the hosts. Thomaston Grammar School 4, Searsport 0 … At Thomaston Sept. 14, the Clippers earned a shutout win over the visiting Vikings. Andrew King booted in a pair of goals for TGS, while Eli Thorbjornson and Walker Ranney each scored a goal for the hosts. Ranney and Sloane Smith combined for a shutout in goal for the Clippers. Medomak Middle School 2, Troy Howard Middle School 0 … At Belfast Sept. 14, the Riverhawks shut out the host Lions and picked up a road win. Jamie Temple and Gavin Felch each creased the net for the Riverhawks, while Makale Willis had a pair of assists and Sam Morrill one. Vincent Garland picked up the shutout in goal for the visitors. Camden-Rockport Middle School 2, Medomak Middle School 0 … At Waldoboro Sept. 9, the Schooners sailed past the Riverhawks for a shutout victory. Will Cole converted a penalty shot and Nick Tassoni netted the second for the winners. CRMS coach Martin Rogers commended Adam Throne in the Schooner goal and midfielders Jack Gallagher and Jonah Cameron for their play.

Coed Soccer

Hope Elementary School 1, Lincolnville Central School 1 … At Lincolnville Sept. 15, the Lynx and the Hawks battled to a stalemate with the score tied at the end of regulation and two overtimes. Max Pushaw scored the lone goal for the Hawks with a shot from the 18-yard line on an assist from Louis Laurita. Emma Gutheinz also scored the lone goal for the Lynx on an assist from Annie Young.

Lincolnville Central School 8, Appleton Village School 0 … At Lincolnville Sept. 13, the Lynx earned a shutout victory over the visiting Wildcats. Top offensive players for the Lynx Monday were Nick Czuchra (2 goals, assist), Jet Magri (assist), Josh Pitcarin (2 goals, assist), Kieran Lydon (assist), Brooke Benson (assist), Elizabeth Cummons (goal), Gavin Decker-Griffith (2 goals), Aubrey Heald (assist) and Madeline Wight (assist). The Lynx jumped to a 3-0 lead at halftime before tallying five more goals in the second half en route to the win. Information for Appleton was unavailable.

Hope Elementary School 3, St. George 2 … At Hope Sept. 13, the Hawks soared over the Wildcats and prevailed with a one-goal victory. Bill Bracher creased the net twice for Hope, while Will Davee added the other score for the hosts. Bracher scored the game-winner with four minutes remaining in regulation for the Hawks.
