Athletic play for Midcoast middle school student-athletes has heated up the past few days, with many squads in action earlier this week.

The following is a recap of reported results from a variety of recent contests, including boys, girls and coed soccer, field hockey and football.

Boys soccer

At Rockland Sept. 22, Medomak Middle School prevailed over host Rockland District Middle School 2-1 win. Zach Starr scored the first goal for the visiting Riverhawks off a direct kick outside the penalty area, while Rockland tied the score with eight minutes left in the game. Jamie Temple gave the Riverhawks the win in the waning minutes, coming up with a loose ball and firing home the game-winning goal. Jared Mank and Zach Starr split time in net for MMS.

At Camden Sept. 22, Camden-Rockport Middle School beat Searsport District Middle School 4-0. Nick Walker scored a pair of goals to lead the Schooners, while Jamie Zanca and Paul Woodworth also creased the net for the hosts.

At Belfast Sept. 22, Thomaston Grammar School went on the road and defeated the Lions 5-0. Eli Thorbjornson had a pair of first-half goals to lead the Clippers, while Andre King, Travis Frye and Dylan Gamage each had second-half goals for the visitors. Sloane Smith and Griffin Lombardo split time in net for the Clippers in the shutout.

At Waldoboro Sept. 20, Thomaston prevailed in a 5-3 victory over host Medomak. Thorbjornson had three goals in the victory for the Clippers, while Brian Haskell and Andrew King also creased the nets for the visitors. Walker Ranney chipped in with two assists, while Trevor Crute assisted on another goal for TGS.

Girls soccer

At Rockland Sept. 22, visiting Medomak Middle School emerged with a 2-0 victory over host Rockland District Middle School. Lexi Genthner scored the first goal for the Riverhawks on a pass from Kayleigh Curtis, while Hannah Watmough also creased the net for the visitors. Jordan Carpenter played in net for RDMS.

Coed soccer

At Appleton Sept. 20, Camden-Rockport Middle School shut out host Appleton Village School 4-0. David Flint scored twice and added an assist to lead the Schooners, while Kyle Winchenbach and Austin Gallant also scored for the visitors. Lara Cazemajou also notched an assist in the win for CRMS, while Ian McBride posted his first shutout in goal, making seven saves.

Field hockey

At Boothbay Sept. 22, Camden-Rockport Middle School posted a 3-1 victory over the host Wildcats. Schooners Frances Pendleton, Macy Buck and Rose Flanagan all scored goals, while CRMS also held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.

At Belfast Sept. 22, unbeaten Rockland District Middle School/Thomaston Grammar School pulled out a 2-0 win over host Troy Howard Middle School. Rebekah Freeman and Alex Chase both scored to lead the visitors, while Payton Billingsley had a shutout performance in the goal. Madison Littlefield played in the cage for the Lions. RDMS/TGS has not been scored on this season.


At Rockland Sept. 22, Rockland District Middle School fell to visiting Bangor 28-0. The Eagles are 0-3 on the young season and are still in search of their first victory. ” Our offensive line did a great job, but our [running] backs fumbled the ball about seven times, which really hurt us,” said RDMS coach Darren Randall.
