VillageSoup will host the 2010 Belfast City Council Candidates Night forum, Thursday Oct. 7, at 7 p.m., in the Council chambers at City Hall.

All six candidates — two competing for each of three open seats, in Wards 1, 2 and 5 — are scheduled to appear at the event.

In Ward 1, Councilor Marina Delune is seeking re-election for a second term against longtime Planning Board Chairman Roger Pickering.

In Ward 2, two-term Councilor Roger Lee seeks re-election against newcomer Rita Horsey.

In Ward 5, two new faces to city politics, Nancy Hamilton and John Arrison, are competing for the seat currently held by Lewis Baker, who is running for a seat in the state Legislature.

VillageSoup reporter Ethan Andrews will moderate the event. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, and will be invited to pose questions to the candidates.

The forum will be broadcast live on Bel-TV, cable channel 7, and rerun in the weeks leading up to the election.
