As questionable weather poured into the Midcoast Tuesday afternoon, five local high school golf squads headed out to test their skills on the links.

In the matches, Belfast beat Camden Hills, Rockland defeated Mount View and, in a major upset, Medomak Valley upended previously unbeaten Lincoln Academy.

Belfast moves on to participate in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship shootout, which will be a nine-hole event on Thursday. Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bath Country Club. The shootout will include Belfast (8-2) and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle (9-1) from the South Division and Waterville and Leavitt of Turner from the North Division.

The KVAC titlist will receive an automatic bid to the state team championship tournament, while the others will combine with all KVAC Class B teams to participate in another league team/individual state qualifier.

The current standings for Midcoast high school teams show: Belfast 8-2, Searsport 7-1 (missing results), Camden Hills 5-5, Georges Valley 4-3 (missing results), Medomak Valley 4-5 (missing result), Rockland 4-6 and Mount View of Thorndike 0-10.

The results of reported Tuesday matches, which finished the regular season for many teams, were:

Medomak Valley 5.5, Lincoln Academy 3.5 … At the Rockland Golf Course, Medomak Valley defended its home turf and defeated the Eagles of Newcastle after losing three of five individual matches and tying another. The Panthers won because they earned three valuable points for compiling a lower four-golfer stroke total (178-182).

Panther Zack Judkins was the medalist with a score of 43.

The individual results, with Panthers listed first, were: Isaac Greenrose (44) defeated Malcolm Oliver (48); Adam Lynch (45) tied Seward Matel (45); Alex Greenrose (45) lost to Stephen Quinlan (46); Kyle Durkee (47) lost to Goran Johanson (45); Judkins (43) defeated Jalen Lincoln (47); and Ryan Merrifield (51) lost to Alex Cosgrove (56).

“The guys were very excited with the win over LA,” said Panther coach Peter Stuart. “I think we — the team and I — all agree that our season didn’t go as well as we had hoped for back in August and it was a good way to end the regular season on a real positive note. The guys are playing better golf and I’m hoping that they may be peaking at the right time leading into the state qualifier on [Oct. 5]. This win is a real positive step to them believing in themselves and that they can do it. It’s wide open and any three teams can fill those [state-qualifying] spots. I’m hoping we’re one of them.”
