A cement mixer truck that went off the side of Swan Lake Avenue Monday morning, Oct. 4, resulted in more than $36,000 in combined damage to the vehicle and a nearby lawn, but no one was hurt.

According to the accident report at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, 59-year-old Steven Marriner of Liberty was headed north on the avenue at 10: 10 a.m. in a 1997 Ford three-axle single unit that was registered to State Sand and Gravel in Belfast. The rear end of the vehicle shifted to the left, according to the accident report, and Marriner crossed the center line, sending the vehicle sliding off the left side of the road.

Belfast Fire and Ambulance crews arrived at the scene to check on Marriner, who was not seriously injured, and to assist with traffic management. Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating said traffic did not have to be re-routed because the truck was far enough off the road that vehicles could travel through the area with little interruption.

Damage to the truck was estimated at $35,000, and the accident caused an additional $1,200 in damage to a residential lawn.
