While golf’s high school regular season has ended for most, two Midcoast teams — and a handful of local individuals — will remain in the swing of things in the coming days thanks to their solid efforts on the links at just the right time.

Belfast and Rockland were among the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B squads that qualified for the state tournament with solid performances Tuesday at the Natanis Golf Course.

Playing the Tomahawk course, the Lions and Tigers finished well enough to join Waterville and previous qualifier Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, the league titlist, as teams that earned berths in the state tournament.

Thus, Rockland, Belfast, Waterville and Lincoln Academy will represent the KVAC at the state Class B team championships on Saturday, Oct. 9 on the same Natanis course.

Lincoln Academy had previously received an automatic bid to the states by winning the KVAC Class B shootout Sept. 30 at the Bath Country Club. Rockland, Belfast and Waterville all qualified during Tuesday’s event.

Furthermore, seven local golfers also qualified, from Tuesday’s event, for the state schoolboy individual championships on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Natanis.

Those state qualifiers are: Belfast’s Jamie Jackson and Stephen Simmons; Rockland’s Cameron Clement and Reilly Flanagan; Medomak Valley’s Zach Judkins; Camden Hills’ John Vannorsdall; and Mount View’s Erik Larrabee.

In an example of the fickle nature of golf, Mount View senior Colby Blanchard, who lost just one regular-season match playing from the number one spot, came one stroke shy of qualifying for the state individual tournament despite an unbelievable season.

The team and individual scores for Midcoast golfers from Tuesday’s KVAC state qualifier were:

Rockland finished with four-golfer, 18-hole stroke total of 350, as Cameron Clement shot 77, Flanagan 86, Connor Clement 92, Jordan Carter 95, Parker Spear 103 and Taylor Overlock 112. Cameron Clement was second overall among 100 golfers.

Belfast finished at 356, as Jackson shot 77, Simmons 86, Tyler McDevitt 94, Tim Sticht and Jordan Luther both 99 and Dustin Howes 109.

Medomak Valley finished at 362, as Judkins shot 84, John Wilcox 89, Isaac Greenrose 94, Adam Lynch 96, Alex Greenrose 97 and Kyle Durkee 97.

Camden Hills finished at 361, as Vannorsdall shot 86, Jay Knowlton 89, Miles Ingraham 91, Max Fischer 95, Eddie Socker 99 and Zach Christie 106.

Mount View shot 417, as Larrabee shot 83, Blanchard 87, Dash Albright 123, Dan Muther 124, Zach Holman 146 and Owen Freeman 149.
