The Busline League boys, girls and coed soccer playoffs kicked off over the weekend with games throughout the Midcoast, with many teams still alive as they hope to run the postseason gauntlet and advance to the championship games.

In first-round Northern Division girls action, No. 5 Rockland District Middle School defeated No. 4 Medomak Middle School 2-1 after regulation, two overtime periods and penalty kicks, while No. 3 Searsport District Middle School defeated No. 6 Thomaston Grammar School 5-1.

The No. 5 Eagles will face No. 1 Camden-Rockport on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 3:45 p.m. in Camden, while No. 3 Searsport will travel to play No. 2 Troy Howard of Belfast the same day and probably the same time.

In first-round Northern Division boys action, No. 4 Rockland District Middle School posted a 2-0 victory over No. 5 Searsport District Middle School, while No. 3 Medomak Middle School defeated No. 6 Troy Howard Middle School 5-1.

The No. 4 Eagles will face No. 1 Thomaston Grammar School on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in Thomaston, while No. 3 Medomak Middle School will travel to No. 2 Camden-Rockport the same day for a 3:30 p.m. game.

In first-round Northern Division coed soccer action, No. 3 St. George defeated No. 6 Vinalhaven (score not available), while No. 4 Appleton bested No. 5 Camden-Rockport White 2-0.

The No. 3 Dragons will play at No. 2 Hope, while No. 4 Appleton will play at No. 1 Lincolnville. Both games will be Tuesday, Oct. 12, times not available.

No. 4 Camden-Rockport Red also was in action over the weekend in first-round Southern Division coed action against top-seeded Bristol, but the score from that game was unavailable.

The Busline League championship games will be Saturday, Oct. 16 at Wasgatt Field in Rockland. The coed championship will be at 10 a.m., the girls at noon and the boys at 2 p.m.

The following are the final regular-season standings for boys, girls and coed soccer:

North Division boys: Thomaston Grammar School 9-1, Camden-Rockport Middle School 8-2, Medomak Middle School of Waldoboro 5-3-1, Rockland District Middle School 4-5-1, Searsport District Middle School 2-7 and Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast 0-10.

South Division boys: Jefferson 6-1-1, Wiscasset 6-1-1, Woolwich 4-2-2, Richmond 2-5 and Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta 0-8.

North Division girls: Camden-Rockport 9-0-1, Troy Howard 6-3-1, Searsport 6-4, Medomak 4-4-2, Rockland 1-8-1 and Thomaston 1-8-1.

South Division girls: Richmond 8-1-1, Great Salt Bay 6-2-2, Wiscasset 6-2-2, Jefferson 5-4-1, Woolwich 2-8 and Boothbay 0-10.

North Division coed: Lincolnville Central School 9-0-1, Hope Elementary School 8-1-1, St. George Elementary School 6-3, Appleton Village School 2-5, Camden-Rockport Middle School White and 1-6 and Vinalhaven School 0-8.

South Division coed: Bristol 5-0, South Bristol 3-1-1, Camden-Rocport Red, 1-4-1; Nobleboro, 1-6

Additionally, the South Division boys quarterfinal playoffs were Oct. 8, with No. 5 GSB at No. 4 Richmond, while the top three teams receive byes to the next round. In the second round, the No. 5 GSB-No. 4 Richmond winner will be at No. 1 Jefferson and No. 2 Wiscasset will host No. 3 Woolwich. The two survivors are scheduled to meet for the South Division title on Thursday, Oct. 14. That winner will play the North Division titlist in the league final Oct. 16.

For the South Division girls, the quarterfinals were Oct. 9, with No. 6 Boothbay at No. 3 Wiscasset and No. 5 Woolwich at No. 4 Jefferson. No. 1 Richmond and No. 2 Great Salt Bay receive first-round byes.

In the next round on Tuesday, Oct. 12, No. 1 Richmond will host the Nos. 4-5 winner and No. 2 GSB will host the Nos. 6-3 winner. The two survivors will meet for the South Division crown on Thursday, Oct. 14. The winner of that game will play the North Division champ for the overall league crown on Saturday, Oct. 16 at noon in Rockland.

The South Division did not have coed quarterfinals, but will begin with the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 12, as No. 1 Bristol hosts No. 4 Nobleboro and No. 2 South Bristol hosts No. 3 Camden-Rockport Red, The two winners will meet Thursday, Oct. 14 and the survivor will play the North Division titlist for the overall league crown on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. in Rockland.

Girls soccer

At Waldoboro, No. 5 Rockland District Middle School prevailed 2-1 in a thrilling contest over No. 4 Medomak Middle School. The game was tied 1-1 after two 30-minute halves and two five-minute overtimes, as the outcome of the game turned to penalty kicks. RDMS’s Ashley Gardner creased the net for the visitors in the fifth round of penalty kicks, pushing the Eagles into the next round of the playoffs.

Lexi Genthner scored the lone goal for the Riverhawks, while the name of the Eagle goal scorer in regulation was not available.

Boys soccer

At Waldoboro, No. 3 Medomak Middle School ran away with the game in the second half as they propelled past No. 6 Troy Howard Middle School 5-1. Jamie Temple and Zach Starr each creased the net twice for the Riverhawks, while Tucker Prescott also scored and added an assist for the hosts. Micah Williamson and Rory McCaffery also had assists in the win. Sam Kulikowski scored the lone goal for the Lions.

Zeke Ventura and Jackson Winslow each minded the net for Troy Howard Middle School, while Jackson Vail kept the majority of the contest for the Riverhawks before Temple relieved him late in the game.
