The Camden Hills girls and Lincoln Academy boys, along with two talented Midcoast high school student-athletes, raced to firsts in Friday afternoon’s Camden Hills Invitational cross-country meet.

Windjammer freshman Brittany Bowman, who has ruled the local girls distance running scene this fall, and North Haven senior Charlie Jones, one of the most talented runners in the state, cruised to wins in their divisions.

The girls team scores were: Camden Hills 58, Medomak Valley 63, Morse of Bath 98, Belfast 103 and Rockland, Watershed School and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle no score.

The boys team scores were: Lincoln Academy 44, Medomak Valley 57, Camden Hills 97, Belfast 111, Morse 139 and Rockland, Mount View of Thorndike and Watershed no score.

The girls meet proved competitive with only a few points separating Camden Hills and Medomak Valley. In the girls race, Bowman, who crossed the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes and 13 seconds, outdistanced the field and runner-up Abby Hersom of Rockland (21:10) by nearly a minute.

In the boys race, Jones (17:46) did the same as Medomak Valley’s Nick Anderson (18:44) finished second.

Camden Hills, Medomak Valley, Belfast, Rockland and Mount View runners will compete in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Cony High School in Augusta.
