As the Midcoast braced for weekend rain and wind, high school soccer players were on the fields for Thursday games before the weather poured down.

In boys games, Islesboro beat Highview Christian and Medomak Valley bested Gardiner, while Searsport lost to Orono.

In girls games, Medomak Valley tied Gardiner and Searsport and Rockland fell to Orono and Maranacook respectively.


Islesboro 8, Highview Christian 4 … On the island, with six players scoring, the Eagles defeated Highview.

D.J. Johnson and Max Mahan each scored two goals for Islesboro, while Charlie Gebhardt, Blaise Jenner, Nick Day and Cameron Jack also scored a goal apiece for the Eagles. Gonzalo Cores and Chun Hunglin each scored two goals for Highview Christian.

Goalie Gerard Scherr had six saves for Islesboro and keeper Nate Chandler had 10 for Highview.

Islesboro held a 22-7 edge in shots.

Islesboro (9-4, 39.8419 points) is third in the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, while Greenville (10-2-2, 77.4065 points) is first in the 10-team region .

Medomak Valley 3, Gardiner 2 … At Waldoboro, the Panthers clawed into the Tigers for a close victory as Isaac Durkee scored the winning goal.

Vincent Vannah and Chris Morrill also scored for the Panthers and Deering Genthner added an assist. Zachary Abram and Daniel Delgallo scored for Gardiner.

The Panthers held a 6-3 edge in shots and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

Medomak Valley goalie Robbie Griffin made one save and Gardiner keeper Caleb Smith made three.

Vannah opened the scoring for the Panthers with Genthner’s assist 11 minutes into the first half. Morrill then netted a goal with 12:59 remaining in the opening half.

Abram responded with Gardiner’s first goal with 12:29 left. Then, Delgallo tied the game with his goal with 9:59 remaining in the first half.

Durkee scored for Medomak Valley with 13:57 left in the second half to break the tie and lift the Panthers to the win.

Medomak Valley (3-8-2, 25.8929 points) is 12th in Eastern Class B, while  Ellsworth (13-0, 116.1990 points) is first among 18 teams in the region.

Orono 7, Searsport 0 … At Searsport, the Vikings faced a shutout as the visiting Red Riots beat them by seven goals. Alex Caballero had two goals and an assist, and Gustaf Aurelius, Corey Riemersma and Kody Stockley scored for the visitors.

Searsport goalie Dillon Moody had nine saves on 18 shots, while Orono’s goalie, whose name was unavailable, had one save.

Searsport (1-12, .7143 points) is 18th (last) in Eastern Class C, while Fort Kent (9-1-3, 101.5306 points) is first.


Medomak Valley 1, Gardiner 1 (2OT) … At Gardiner, even after two overtimes, the Panthers and Tigers proved evenly matched.

Maria Ennamorati scored for Medomak Valley and Kate Turmelle creased the net for Gardiner. Both goals were unassisted.

Medomak Valley held a 10-6 edge in shots.

Panther keeper Amanda Hendrickson had five saves, while Gardiner keeper Jenn Day made nine stops.

Ennamorati netted her goal with 16:36 remaining in the second half, while Turmelle’s goal came with 6:42 left in regulation.

Medomak Valley (8-4-1, 63.6607 points) is 10th in Eastern Class B, while Caribou (10-2-1, 117.6658 points) is first in the 18-team region.

Orono 5, Searsport 0 At Orono, Alex Crocker scored four goals for the hosts as the Red Riots shut out the Vikings. Crocker also assisted a goal by Ruth Mares.

Goalie Alicen Brooks made 17 saves for Searsport, while Jade Keezer and Taylor Gray combined to make four saves for Orono.

Orono held a 29-6 edge in shots.

Searsport (2-10-2, 18.9511 points) is 14th in Eastern Class C, while Fort Kent (10-2-1, 127.9337 points) sits atop the 19-team region.

Maranacook 6, Rockland 3 … At Rockland, the Black Bears of Readfield doubled up the host Tigers, as Madde Nazar and Katie Dore both scored two goals and Hanna Cumler and Amanda Finley both one.

For Rockland, Beth Berry netted two goals and Emma Mason one. Maranacook held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Rockland (1-10-2, 24.2857 points) is 16th in Eastern Class B, while Caribou (10-2-1, 117.6658 points) is first in the 18-team region.
