The Camden-Rockport Middle School boys and girls proved they clearly are the cream of the Busline League running crop as both Schooner squads collected Busline League cross-country championships Thursday at the Damariscotta River Association.

Ten teams from throughout the Midcoast and beyond took part in the event, with the champion Schooners, Rockland District Middle School, Appleton Village School, Searsport District Middle School, Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast, Lincolnville Central School, Medomak Middle School of Waldoboro, Richmond Middle School, Boothbay Middle School and host Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta having runners in the event.

The girls run took place first on the 2.25-mile course, followed by the boys race and the “fun run,” designated for the young runners who did not qualify individually for the team championships. Official results from the “fun run” were not kept.

The girls team scores were: CRMS 20, Boothbay 76, Lincolnville 98, Rockland 113, Medomak 131, Searsport 150, Richmond 172, Appleton 204, Great Salt Bay 230 and Troy Howard no score.

The boys team scores were: CRMS 30, Boothbay 66, Medomak 81, Troy Howard 81, Great Salt Bay 118, Rockland 145, Lincolnville 153 and Richmond, Appleton and Searsport no score.

Medomak and Troy Howard both scored 81 points, while the points accumulated by the sixth runner for each team broke the tie, moving the Riverhawks into third place.

Schooner Jacqueline Russell was the top overall finisher for the girls race, clocking in with a time of 16 minutes and 26 seconds. Riverhawk Glenn Weeks also cruised through the boys race en route to a first-place finish with a time of 14 minutes and 54 seconds.
