A Thorndike man was transported to an area hospital after he apparently fell asleep at the wheel while traveling along Route 220 Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17.

Earland Stevenson, 60, of Thorndike was transported via Unity Ambulance to Inland Hospital in Waterville to be treated for facial lacerations.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating said Stevenson likely feel asleep while he was headed north on Route 220 in his 2005 Chevy 1500 pickup.

Keating said Stevenson’s vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole.

Deputy James Porter responded to the accident, Keating said.
