Maurice R. Farrar, 75, died at home unexpectedly Oct. 16, 2010.

He was born on Feb. 16, 1935. He lived and worked on a chicken plantation for several years, then drove a milk truck for George Farrar. Later he worked for Bridge Corp. construction company. He also enjoyed driving tanker trucks for Merrill Transport and then Irving Oil company until he retired.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He served in the Marines. He loved vacationing with family, from camping up north or at Deer Isle, to traveling to Florida. He loved having all the family together and would use any excuse to have the whole family over. He enjoyed hosting the monthly game nights for the family and having the children around him.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 of years, Esther L. Farrar; his parents, George and Ethel Farrar; four siblings, Kenneth Farrar, George Farrar, Gloria Keay and Dorothy Wiggins; and a grandson, Christopher L. Wellman.

He is survived by five children, David Farrar and his wife, Nancy, Celia and her husband, Lionel York Sr.; Michael Farrar, Ernest Farrar and his wife, Julie, and Anita and her husband, Clyde Wellman Jr.; six grandchildren, Ben Thomas and his wife, Michelle, Lionel York Jr. and his wife, Kristen, Danielle and her husband, Robert Lint, Jessica Farrar, Jennifer Farrar and Maranda Wellman; seven great-grandchildren, Zachery Thomas and Garrett Thomas, Kevin York and Lionel York III, Victoria Lint, Alexis Lint and Tabitha Lint; a brother, Everett Farrar; two sisters, Gladys Hubbard and Marcia Troop; four sisters-in-law, Estella Austin, Joyce Rowe, Helen Farrar and Natalie Farrar; a brother-in-law, Crosby Keay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, followed by a gathering at Belmont Community Center, 613 Back Belmont Road, Belmont.
