Effective Monday, Nov. 1, those who park on downtown streets for more than an hour between midnight and 6 a.m. could face a ticket and a tow at their own expense.

This week, the Belfast Police Department is reminding the public about the annual winter parking ban, which is scheduled to be in effect from Monday, Nov. 1, until Saturday, April 30, 2011.

According to a press release from BPD, residents may park overnight in the municipal parking lots at Cross Street, Beaver Street and Washington Street.

The following are special instructions for residents who use the municipal parking lots to park their vehicles overnight. In order to facilitate winter snow removal, please park in municipal lots as follows:

Beaver Street: Park vehicles on the side of the lot next to the opera house building.  On the day after a storm, please park vehicles on the courthouse side of the parking lot.

Cross Street: Park vehicles in the middle of the parking lot overnight and during snowstorms. On the day after a snowstorm, please park vehicles around the outside edge of the lot.

Washington Street: Park vehicles on the Washington Street edge of the lot overnight and during snowstorms. On the day after a storm, please park vehicles in the middle of the parking lot.

Anyone with questions about the winter parking ban is asked to call the police department at 338-5255.
