A local woman remained at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor Monday morning, Oct. 25, after she was injured in an accident that took place on Back Belmont Road Saturday, Oct. 23.

Michelle Bailey, 60, of Belmont was headed to her workplace at Belfast Variety on Route 52 just before 1 p.m. in her Chevy Colorado pickup, said Belfast Police Chief Jeff Trafton.

“She came up over a knoll, and there was a vehicle sitting in the road,” said Trafton. The chief added that it was still unknown why the vehicle was parked in the roadway.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the unidentified vehicle, Bailey swerved and lost control. Bailey’s vehicle veered off the road and flipped over, Trafton said.

Trafton said Bailey had extensive injuries, and she was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
