Kathleen Rita Rose, 57, formerly of Appleton, died Oct. 22, 2010, in Spartanburg, S.C., after a long illness.

Born in Bayport, N.Y., Aug. 29, 1953, she was a daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Pinkie) Rose. She grew up in Long Island, N.Y., where she attended elementary school, and was a 1971 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School.

Kathleen had been employed in several retail positions, as a certified nursing assistant, and was formerly the town clerk of Appleton. The past several years she traveled with her son Matthew during his military service and most recently resided in Moore, S.C.

Kathleen loved cooking and very much enjoyed watching the Food Network on television, learning new recipes and techniques. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, hosting dinner parties for friends and family, gardening and home improvement projects.

She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Rose, of Appleton; four children, Jamie Gurney of Searsmont, Joy Gurney of Waldo, Matthew Gurney of Moore, S.C., and Jacob and his wife, Amanda Gurney, of Thorndike; three brothers, Jeff Rose and his wife, Pat, Keith Rose and his wife, Val, all of Appleton, and Peter Rose and his wife, Mary, of Virginia; three sisters, Annie Kunzinger and Janet Rose, both of Texas, and Beth Burbeck and her husband, Allen, of Florida; and four grandchildren, Janina, Marcel, Caden and Lydia.

She was predeceased by her father, Harold Rose; and a brother, Paul Rose.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton with Deacon Frank Semancik officiating.
