Martha Sneath Mann, 93, died Oct. 24, 2010, at her home.

Born in New Haven, Conn., Martha attended Wellesley College, graduating in 1938. Upon graduation, she taught at Beaver Country Day School in Brookline, Mass.

In 1944 Martha married Dr. Bernard F. Mann Jr., then a lieutenant commander in the Navy. The couple lived in many places throughout the United States and the world during Bernard’s long career as a pathologist, including the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.

They spent much of their married life in Milford, Conn., raising their family. Martha and Bernie retired to the Lincolnville/Camden area in 1977, and were active members of the Camden Yacht Club, the Camden YMCA, and the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Camden.

During her life Martha was foremost a loving wife and mother and a devoted homemaker. A lifelong learner, a lover of Labrador retrievers and the natural world, poetry and music, Martha was also an artist, a member of the church choir, the Pen-Bay Women’s Auxiliary, the Camden Garden Club, and an avid sailor. Martha was most known for being a good friend and a sensitive listener.

She was predeceased by her husband.

She is survived by three children, Constance M. Hill, and her husband, Richard, of Scituate, Mass., Nancy M. Freeman and her husband, Mark, of Winter Park, Fla., and Donald P. Mann and his wife, Jenny Roberts-Mann, of Camden; five granddaughters, Elizabeth F. Harsch of Watertown, Mass., Amanda J. Freeman and Emily R. Freeman of Winter Park, Fla., and Molly M. Mann and Jessica K. Mann of Camden.

A memorial service followed by a reception will be held Friday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 55 Elm St., Camden, with the Rev. Kevin Pleas and the Rev. Brad Payne co-officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lincolnville Central School, 523 Hope Road, Lincolnville, ME 04849.

Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
