Andrew “Drew” Michael Griffith, 5 days, died Oct. 27, 2010, at UCSD Medical Center-Hillcrest in San Diego. Though he lived only five days, he was and will always be deeply loved and sorely missed.

He was born Oct. 22, 2010.

Drew is survived by his mother, Erin Griffith, and father, USMC Sgt. William Zachary Griffith, presently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego; his paternal grandparents, Kate Braestrup and Simon van der Ven, of Lincolnville; his doting great-uncle C.P. “Gus” Braestrup of San Francisco; his great-aunt Angelica Braestrup of Washington, D.C.; his loving great-aunt Mary Sadler of Hartwell, Ga.; his maternal grandparents, Shari McKnight of Ball, La., and George McKnight of Arkansas; his great-grandmothers, Angel Braestrup of Cumberland Center and Frances Peart of Alexandria, La.; his great-grandfather Ralph Griffith and his wife, Gail, of Asheville, N.C.

Drew is also remembered by his uncles, Peter Griffith and Cobus van der Ven; his aunts, Ellie and Woolie Griffith, and Ilona van der Ven; and many, many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, James Andrew “Drew” Griffith, a Maine State Police trooper who died in the line of duty April 15, 1996.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Lincolnville United Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the parents request that donations in Drew’s name be sent to Linda Levy, director, Women and Infant Services, 200 West Arbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92103. Donations should be made out to UCSD Medical Center Infant Special Care Center (NICU).
