Harold A. Whitney, 77, died Oct. 29, 2010, at his residence in Ashland.

He was born in Belfast Nov. 25, 1932, a son of Roy and Louise E. (Jacobs) Whitney. He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Belfast, where he served on the Bus Ministry, and the Washburn Pentecostal Church, where he was a board member and leader of Royal Rangers. Harold always served faithfully in his church. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family. Recently, he and his wife were able to take his dream fishing trip to Alaska.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Althea Thompson; a half-brother; a half-sister; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Marie Whitney.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 49 years, Virginia (Bryant) Whitney, of Ashland; three children, Howard Whitney and his wife, Evelyn, of Belmont, Karen Philbrook and her husband, Kurt, of Ashland, Paul Whitney and his wife, Regina, of Watertown, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Bethany, Amy, Marrisa, Kathleen, Brian, Amber, Stephen, Ben, Tamara, Christopher and Caleb; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended church family.

Family and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2. Burial will follow at Smart Cemetery.
