The Brooks Volunteer Fire Department Fund Raising Committee would like to express its heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from Brooks and the surrounding communities at its first fundraising event for rescue equipment Oct. 23.

Imagine a fireman’s boot filled with monetary donations and over 200 people being personally served a spaghetti supper by a very efficient kitchen and wait staff crew. Entertainment included musicians Dale Hustus of Jackson on the guitar and Neil Caudill and Cathy Crowley of Monroe. This was a wonderful addition to the evening!

Winners of the raffles were: Marion Bailey of Brooks, 100 gallons of heating oil/propane; Arthur Humphrey of Brooks, one cord of split firewood; and Travis Macleod, also of Brooks, $50 gift certificate from Buxton Lumber Co.

Hannah Clifford and Alex Schiessel worked the 50/50 raffle and collected $338, which was split between Carson Fuller of Jackson and the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department.

Our firemen were just sitting down to eat when their pagers sounded off for a car accident. In an instant, the table was left with plates full of spaghetti. The number of volunteer hours spent both training and responding is often unrecognized.

Raising nearly $6,000 makes our thermometer rise more than we ever anticipated. Because of people like you, we are one step closer to realizing our goal of rescue equipment to help save lives.
