Victors in the recent City Council election gathered at City Hall Monday, Nov. 8, for a swearing-in ceremony. Marina Delune and Roger Lee will remain in their respective Ward 1 and 2 seats. New Ward 5 Councilor Nancy Hamilton took her first oath of office.

Mayor Walter Ash, Ward 3 Councilor Eric Sanders and City Manager Joe Slocum were also present at the ceremony.

City Clerk Denise Beckett led each of the councilors through the oath, then asked if any wished to make a statement.

Councilor Marina Delune compared this election to her first bid in 2008, when she ran unopposed. “It felt great to be elected with an opponent,” she said. “People have given me something I can’t put into words.”

Neither Lee nor Hamilton made a statement at the ceremony.

The City Council typically convenes on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The new Council, however, was scheduled to meet for the first time Tuesday, Nov. 9, for an executive session to discuss a legal matter and an economic development matter. The next regular Council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 16.
