A Belmont man was hurt in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning, Nov. 14, after he reportedly took his eyes off the road and lost control of his pickup.

Nathan Grass, 26, of Belmont was driving north on East Waldo Road in his 1994 Toyota pickup just after 10 a.m. Sunday. According to the accident report at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Grass “took his eyes off the road.”

When Grass looked up, he saw a guardrail and swerved to avoid striking it. The truck then spun counterclockwise and hit the guardrail on the left side of the road, causing the truck to roll over.

The accident report stated that Grass was bleeding from an injury on his back, and Belfast Ambulance and Rescue responded to the scene to examine Grass. The report did not specify whether or not Grass was transported to a hospital.

The accident caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to the Toyota.

According to the police report, Grass was not wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred.
