Perhaps being inspired by the stellar play of the varsity, which finished 14-2-1 overall with the number one spot in Eastern Class B and a share of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B title, the Mount View High School junior varsity field hockey team earned three wins and forged three ties in 11 games this fall.

Under the direction of coach Wendy Trafton, the Mustangs included varsity swing players Alex Carleton, Kyrstyn Keating (captain) and Fran Stevens, as well as Allyson Clary, Mara Dominiak, Larissa Hannan (captain), Braley Leadbetter, Jacki Nadeau, Lauren Richards, Sierra Roberts, Andrea Smith (captain), Anna Tsomides, Hailey Davis, Alexandra Fowler, Mykenna Grotton, Brittany Moody, Allura Bryant, Brook Colcord, Hailey Giggey, Megan Muther, Caitlyn Poulin, Kassey Thompson and manager Katie Hannan.

The team’s record was 3-5-3 and included the following game results:

Lost to Winslow 3-0.

Lost to Nokomis of Newport 3-1, with the Mustang goal by Tsomides, assisted by Nadeau.

Beat Hampden Academy 3-0, with the goals by Tsomides (2), assisted by Grotton and Clary, and Richards.

Lost to Maranacook of Readfield 2-1, with the Mustang goal by Larissa Hannan, assisted by Nadeau.

Beat Rockland 2-0, as Nadeau and Larissa Hannan, assisted by Roberts, scored.

Lost to Gardiner 1-0.

Lost to Waterville 4-1, as the Mount View goal was by Tsomides, assisted by Moody.

Tied Camden Hills 1-1, as Keating scored for the Mustangs.

Beat Erskine Academy of South China 3-0, as goals were tallied by Leadbetter, Larissa Hannan and Richards, assisted by Nadeau.

Tied Leavitt of Turner 1-1, as the Mustang goal was caged by Smith.

Tied Belfast 0-0.

Coach Trafton said the Mustangs received “strong, consistent defense this year from Brittany Moody, Mykenna Grotton, Hailey Davis and Caitlyn Poulin.”
