A Frankfort man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16, according to police, after he stole an ice cream scoop from a local business and used the bathroom there to prepare drugs for use.

Officers with the Belfast and Searsport police departments worked jointly to apprehend 30-year-old Amos A. Robbins of Frankfort. Belfast police summoned Robbins for theft, possession of schedule W drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia (needles) following the incident, and Searsport officers arrested Robbins on a probation hold a short time later.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham with the Belfast Police Department said a woman had initially called police stating that Robbins had taken a vehicle without permission and that she had spotted the vehicle parked at Jerry’s hardware on Route 1 in Belfast.

Cunningham said it turned out that Robbins and the woman had bought the vehicle jointly, and that Robbins had committed no crime regarding the vehicle.

Meanwhile, employees at the hardware store were growing suspicious of Robbins’ behavior while he was at the business, so they contacted police as well.

Robbins had left the business by that time, Cunningham said, but officers with the Searsport Police Department located Robbins a short time later and arrested him on the probation hold.

After further investigation, Cunningham said, police learned that Robbins allegedly stole an ice cream scoop at the hardware store and then asked to use the restroom.

“He used [the ice cream scoop] to cook up his Adderall in the bathroom,” said Cunningham.

According to Wikipedia, Adderall is a common treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.

Robbins is scheduled to appear at Fifth District Court in Belfast Tuesday, Dec. 21.
