A Waldo County grand jury handed up 43 indictments Friday, Nov. 19, and among them was a Corinth man who is facing several charges, including stalking and criminal speed in connection with an incident last month.

Douglas E. Chambers, 43, was indicted on charges of burglary, stalking, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, disorderly conduct, driving to endanger, failure to stop for an officer, criminal speed, failure to report an accident and two counts of refusing to submit to arrest.

Chambers was arrested Oct. 12 after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed his vehicle and unsuccessfully tried to run from the scene.

The incident involving Chambers began when police received a call from a female who was staying at the Rocky Ridge Motel on Route 1 in Stockton Springs. The woman stated that a man, whom she identified as Chambers, was trying to force his way into her room.

When officers arrived they witnessed Chambers reaching through a screen in the window of the motel room, and when police ordered Chambers to stop, he allegedly fled in his 2009 Charger.

From there, Chambers led police on a chase that reached speeds of 90 mph, and the pursuit ended when Chambers reportedly crashed his car at the intersection of Routes 1 and 1A in Stockton Springs. After a brief foot chase, police apprehended Chambers and transported him to the Waldo County Jail.
