Four local people have been arrested on drug charges that stem from a lengthy investigation involving several law enforcement agencies.

According to a press release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, three of the four individuals allegedly involved in a local drug trafficking ring were arrested Tuesday, Nov. 30:

• Michelle Cogswell, 28, of Belfast was arrested on one count of unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs (Oxycodone), a Class B felony.

• Katie L. Clark, 25, of Frankfort was arrested on two Class B felony counts of unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs (Suboxone).

• Phillip Golgano, 41, of Belfast was arrested on one Class B felony count of trafficking in scheduled drugs (Hydrocodone) and one count of Class D misdemeanor trafficking in Schedule Z drugs (marijuana).

A fourth person, 24-year-old Earl Leathers of Northport, was arrested Nov. 9 on one count of unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs (Oxycodone).

According to the release, the arrests followed an investigation that spanned several months and involved members of the WCSO Detective Division, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Searsport Police Department. The investigation was focused on the sale of prescription medications and marijuana, and the investigation is ongoing.

More arrests are expected as a result of the investigation.
