Carolyn A. Blethen, 73, died Dec. 8, 2010, at her home.

Carolyn was born in Winterport May 17, 1937, to Carl W. Knowles Sr. and Laura M. (Leach) Knowles.

Carolyn was brought up in Winterport before marrying her husband, David, and moving to Frankfort, where they raised their family and lived for more than 44 years.

Carolyn later moved to Brooks into a smaller, cozy home to be near Renee and Steve, who took wonderful care of her. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a relief postmaster, but more importantly worked as a tireless mother and homemaker.

Carolyn was famous for her immaculate home that was once referred to as “museum quality.” She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cardinals, weekly visits with Darcy playing Scrabble and cribbage, which Carolyn looked forward to, and spending time with her family.

Carolyn will be remembered for her sense of humor and as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all.

Carolyn is survived by three loving children, Aaron Blethen and his wife, Eva, of Appleton, David Blethen II and his wife, Roxanne, of Lisbon and Renee Roche and her husband, Steve, of Brooks; five grandchildren, Darcy Blethen and her partner, Nicholas Trull, Whitney Blethen, Ariana Blethen, Meghann Blethen and Ian Blethen; a brother, Frank Knowles, and his wife, Margaret, of Frankfort; three sisters and their husbands, Viola and Reno Thibodeau of Frankfort, Gladys Knowles of Winterport and Charlene and Lawrence Brassbridge of Frankfort; special friends Frances McFarland, Noni Reed, Judy Ford, Kathy McAvey, her former scrabble partner, Ada Kangas; her cat, Chester; “grand-cats” Cassie and Persis; “grand-puppy” Zeke; and many nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents; her husband, David N. Blethen; a son, Andre D. Blethen; three brothers, Keith Knowles, Victor Knowles, and Carl W. Knowles Jr.; and friends Sandy Whiting and Dorothy Quigley.

Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
