Belfast Area High School graduates looking to give themselves a late Christmas gift should make plans to return to the Lions’ Den Sunday, Dec. 26 for alumni athletic events — namely basketball and swimming.

Former Lions will challenge the current BAHS varsity basketball and swim teams. There also will be a modified oldies men’s basketball game.

The games start at 5 p.m. in the high school gymnasium with the Lion alumnae playing the current girls varsity basketball team. At the conclusion of that game, the older men’s alumni will play a modified basketball game with odd- versus even-year classes, if there is enough interest/participation.

The final game of the night features the men’s alumni versus this year’s boys varsity basketball team.

In addition, both the boys and girls varsity swim teams will take on the alumni in the high school pool with a start time of 6 p.m. for both genders.

Special guests at this year’s games are the coaches and team members of the 1966 baseball Kennebec Valley Conference champions, the 1967 Eastern Class B ski champs, and the 1968 football team which was undefeated Pine Tree Conference and state Class B champions.

Members of those teams will be called to midcourt to be honored prior to the start of the boys varsity and alumni basketball game.

There is no admission fee, but rather a box will be at the door for donations which will benefit three BAHS groups designated by athletic director Mark Babin.

Alumni interested in playing basketball or swimming can simply show up Sunday, Dec. 26 or register.

Members of the 1966, 1967 and 1968 Lion athletic squads who will be honored should send a contact message through the BAHS Alumni Association website to notify organizers they plan to attend and participate in the recognition ceremony. This will assure names are on the roster list to be called for each team and sport.

Event organizers are attempting to contact the coaches, managers and players for the following former Lion student-athletes:
