A Knox woman and her 15-year-old daughter were killed instantly as the result of a car accident involving a passenger car and a tractor-trailer that took place on Bailey Road Wednesday morning, Dec. 15.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating said Laura Breault, 48, and her daughter, Jessica Breault, died at the scene of the crash.

Keating said the accident was reported just before 8 a.m. Laura Breault was headed east on Bailey Road in a Subaru Outback when she lost control on the slippery road, Keating said. As the vehicle was skidding out of control, Keating said, Breault met a tractor-trailer that was being operated by 44-year-old Daniel Crockett Sr. of Rome.

Crockett was traveling west on Bailey Road when the Subaru slid sideways and struck the truck. As a result, both vehicles slid sideways into the ditch.

Keating said Crockett was not hurt in the accident. The truck Crockett was driving was registered to H.A. Haskell and Sons in Palermo.

Detective Matt Curtis was the primary investigating officer, and he was assisted at the scene by Lt. Jason Trundy and the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division. Deputy Ben Seekins is conducting the accident reconstruction.

Keating said the overnight snowfall left roads snow-covered and slippery, particularly in the Knox and Thorndike area of the county. Officers were out in full force covering a series of accidents that were being reported across the county, including a rollover in Unity near Chase’s Toys.
