Carol Ann (Hubbard) Burns, 57, passed away Dec. 11 unexpectedly and peacefully at a friend’s residence in Waterville.

Carol resided in Albion on the Winslow Road for the past eight years. She was the wife of Donald F. Burns of Jackson, and the daughter of Raymond W. Hubbard and Cora Jean (Lucas) Hubbard.

Carol was born in Follansbee, W.V. on Jan. 22, 1953. She spent most of her childhood growing up in the Steubenville, Ohio area. Carol then lived some of her adult life in Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia, and finally settled in Maine in 1981.

She attended high school at Jefferson Union High in Richmond, Ohio and was a graduate of Eastern Maine Technical College in 1998 in the study of business management as a non-traditional student.

Carol is survived by her husband and companion of 23 years, Donald F. Burns. They raised three children together. She is survived by three sons, James “Jimmy” Schwarz, Carl “Mike” Schwarz and his family and William Hubbard and his family; and one daughter, Dawn “Cricket” Burns Rhodes and her family; seven grandchildren, Trenton “Buckshot”, Kylie, Hattie, Isis, Dakota “Cody” “Koda”, Joey, Rylee; her father, Raymond W. Hubbard and wife Sue; her mother, Cora Jean (Lucas) Hubbard; two sisters, Debbie Hicks and family and Sarah Wills and family; one brother, Wylie Hubbard and family. Carol was much loved and will be sadly missed by many.

Carol had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, young and old, who provided her with comradeship, adventures, advice and special memories. Carol was extremely close to her many nieces and nephews, all of whom were unique, special and treasured by her.

Carol was primarily a housewife and at times worked in convenience stores and delis, restaurants and a few light manufacturing plants and was co-owner of a silk flower shop. Carol had an ardent love of horses. She enjoyed participating in and watching Western-style horse shows, along with watching Western movies and reading Western novels.

Carol was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Hubbard Jr.

There will be no viewing. Graveside and memorial services will be held in Jackson in the spring at the family’s convenience. Those who wish to may send condolences, thoughts or memories to the Burns Family, 661 Winslow Rd., Albion, ME 04910.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in random acts of kindness and charities of the donor’s choice in memory of Carol.
