Christmas will be a little bit merrier for local families in need, thanks to a partnership between the Searsport Fire Department and Santa Claus.

The department hosted the man in the red suit for a tour about town and a toy drive Saturday, Dec. 11, an effort that led to the collection of more than 100 toys that will be donated to the Belfast-based organization Wings of Love. The organization provides new toys, along with hats, boots, coats and mittens for children throughout Waldo County.

The day began with Santa’s visit to several downtown apartment buildings at 9 a.m., followed by the toy drive that was held at the Dan Rich Public Safety Building at 11 a.m. Throughout the remainder of St. Nick’s visit, children and their families brought in toy donations in exchange for having their photographs taken with Santa.
