The Islesboro boys and girls basketball squads took the court Monday night as the Eagles hosted the Sabres of Calvary Chapel. While the Eagle boys have positioned themselves among the top teams in Western Class D in the early stages of the season, the Eagle girls were in search of the year’s first victory.

Both island teams got their wishes Monday, as the Islesboro boys defeated the visitors 75-49, while the girls earned their first victory 33-15 over the Sabres.

Boys

Islesboro 75, Calvary Chapel 49 … At Islesboro Monday, the Eagles got a superior effort from D.J. Johnson, who continues his quest for 1,000 career points, as the hosts prevailed over the visiting Sabres.

Johnson had a triple-double, netting 27 points and adding 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Johnson, a junior, is currently 67 points from hitting the 1,000-point milestone. Jason Hatch, a senior who reached 1,000 points last season, netted 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Islesboro. Max Mahan added 11 points for the hosts, while Charlie Cilley chipped in 10; Gerard Scherr and Cameron Jack, both six; and Will Schoppe, four.

For the Sabres, Clayton Lawrence netted 12 points, while Ben Miller added 10 and Jeremy Miller eight.

Forest Hills 61, Islesboro 56 … At Islesboro Saturday, the Eagles suffered their first loss of the campaign as they fell to the Tigers by five points. Forest Hills led 12-10, 30-22 and 40-38 at the quarter breaks.

Johnson netted 20 points for the hosts, while Hatch chipped in 19; Scherr, eight; Mahan, six; and Cilley, three.

For the Tigers, Evan Worster scored 21 points, while Dylan McNally added 14; Ray Petrin, 13; Joey Gilbert, 11; and Spencer Conrad, two.

Islesboro netted 3-of-4 (75 percent) from the foul line, while Forest Hills converted 7-of-13 (54 percent).

Girls

Islesboro 33, Calvary Chapel 15 … At Islesboro Monday, the Eagles soared to their first win of the season as they cruised to victory over the Sabres. Islesboro led 7-3, 15-6 and 23-12 at the quarter breaks.

Lindsay Durkee keyed the Eagles with 10 points, while Autumn Johnson added eight; Alana Govoni, seven; Sierra Roy, four; and Ally Craig and Caitlin Small, both two.

For the Sabres, Jessica Owens scored 10 points and Jamie Richards five.

Islesboro was 0-of-2 from the foul line, while Calvary Chapel was 2-of-6 (33 percent).
