James H. “Jim” Graffam, 68, a longtime Camden-Rockport resident and businessman, passed away Dec. 31, 2010, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center after a sudden stroke on Dec. 28.
Born in Camden on Nov. 6, 1942, he was the son of E. Maynard and Doris (Ballard) Graffam and was a graduate of Rockport High School. He married Gayle Wilkinson on Aug. 6, 1966.
Jim co-founded the local seafood business Graffam Bros. over 35 years ago with his brother Sandy. He loved his motorhome, traveling and playing golf. Jim was also an avid Red Sox fan and was a member of St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge in Rockport.
Jim will be remembered as a kind, generous and patriotic man who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gayle Graffam of Rockport; his children, Jim Graffam and his wife, Sarah, Jen Cogan and her husband, Rich, and Jeff Graffam and his wife, Lyly; his grandsons, Benjamin and Harrison; his sisters-in-law, Jan Graffam and Jill Wilkinson; his niece, Kim Graffam and her husband, Leni Gronros; and his nephew, Ted Graffam and his wife, Becky.

Jim was predeceased by his brother, E. Maynard “Sandy” Graffam, who died in 1997.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St. in Camden. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Rockport Opera House at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. The Rev. Susan Stonestreet will officiate, assisted by Gilbert Fifield. Parking and shuttle service will be offered at Graffam Bros. Seafood Market, 211 Union St. in Rockport. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
