Stephen Leavins will highlight tips and techniques for “Winter Camping” on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at noon at Merryspring Nature Center. The lecture is part of the Tuesday Talk Series co-sponsored by The First.

Leavins is the program director for the Outdoor School at Maine Sport Outfitters. He is a Registered Maine Guide and has led winter camping and ice climbing trips around New England. He also has traveled to Canada, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Nepal for winter and mountaineering adventures.

According to Leavins, winter offers a new look to some of your favorite summer spots. Maine, New Hampshire and Canada offer a variety of winter activities from day trips to multiple-day camping. A snowy playground is perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, photography, watching wildlife, or just getting exercise outside. While camping will be discussed, the issue of being properly dressed and prepared for life outside in the winter also will be covered.

Admission to the Tuesday Talks is free for Merryspring members and children, while there is a charge of $5 for non-members.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza.
