Demonstrating its overall talent and depth, the Camden Hills wrestling team defended its Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship Saturday at Mount Ararat High School.

Belfast, which brought home five individual titles, finished second, while Medomak Valley was 11th and Mount View of Thorndike 15 in the 23-team meet.

Individual Midcoast championships were garnered by Camden Hills’ Jacob Powers (160 pounds) and Belfast’s Evan Drinkwater (103), Jordan Young (119), Brent Waterman (125), Justin Philbrook (145) and Kornealius Wood (171).

Camden Hills senior Powers was the Class B wrestler of the meet and Windjammer Levi Rollins was the league’s Class B coach of the year.

Camden Hills and Belfast grapplers met in three individual championship matches. The Windjammers demonstrated their tremendous depth by grabbing one individual title to Belfast’s five, but still won the meet comfortably.

Another notable for Camden Hills was that senior Max Bragg (135 pounds) secured his 100th career win.

Additionally for Camden Hills, Connor Winchenbach (103 pounds), Calan Bragg (125), Tom Cassidy (130), Brandon Rich (140), Isaac Young (145) and Rhett Chase (215) placed second and Coleman Powers (119), Max Bragg (135) and Anthony Batty (171) all third.

For Belfast, Walker Roberts (112) placed second, Peter Kelley (189) third and Daniel Weiss (140) and Ethan Fitjurls (152) both fourth.

For Medomak Valley, Stefan Nicholls finished third at 130.

The Windjammers, Lions, Panthers and Mustangs will compete in the Eastern Class B championships on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor.

Winchenbach, CH, pinned Jack Johnson, Skow, at 0:45; pinned Jacob Kenney, MtA, at 1:13; pinned Nick Kothman, EA, at 5:11; and lost to Drinkwater, Bel, 7-4 in the championship final. Winchenbach finished second.

112 pounds — Roberts, Bel, received first- and second-round byes; pinned Jon Hankey, OxH, at 0:27; beat Dylan Harrington, Mor, 8-3; and was pinned by Khalil Newbill, MtB, at 3:14 in the championship final. Roberts finished second.
