Marie E. (Landry) Norwood, 87, of Freedom, passed away Jan. 31, 2011, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of Ned and Philomene (Parent) Landry.

Marie enjoyed doing word games in her spare time, and will be remembered for her positive, gentle, loving and strong-willed attitude by all who knew her. She was a self-taught math wizard, who enjoyed helping family and friends with algebra and other math homework. Marie was State Queen of TOPS — Taking Off Pounds Sensibly — for almost 7 years, a title which she wore proudly. She was never hospitalized except to have her children and remained active until the end of her life.

She is predeceased by her parents; husband Kenneth F. Norwood; and daughter Elaine M. Norwood.

Marie is survived by her loving children Paul Norwood Sr. of Freedom, Kenneth E. Norwood of Boothbay Harbor and ex-wife Judith Norwood of Norfolk, Va., Robert Norwood of Unity, David Norwood and wife Cathy of Valleyview, Texas; and Bruce Norwood and wife Mary of Beverly, Mass.; siblings Dora Anderson of New Jersey, and Oliver Landry of New Hampshire; grandchildren Joanne Ryder, Paul Jr., Jason, Carolyn and Chelsea Norwood; 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be announced in the spring.
