A single-vehicle collision that occurred on Youngtown Road Wednesday morning, Feb. 9 was the result of the driver being under the influence of drugs, according to Police Chief Ron Young.

He said the 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck may have been going “a little too fast.” Young said the driver, Dylan Bucklin, 19, of Swanville was charged with operating under the influence, and possession of Schedule Z drugs, because he allegedly had prescription medications in his possession that were not his own.

“He was injured, so I didn’t arrest him,” Young said. “I just summoned him.”

“[Bucklin] said the reason he went off the road was that he looked down to adjust the radio,” said Young. “He looked up and hit ice and went off the road.”

Bucklin was transported by Camden First Aid Association ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with injuries to the face and neck. The Lincolnville Fire Department also responded to the call.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000 or more and Young said it was likely to be considered a total loss. There was also personal property damage to trees, but Young said he had not spoken with the homeowner and had no estimate for that damage.
