Nine high school basketball teams who toil on the court in VillageSoup’s coverage area — from Waldoboro to Mount Desert Island and Penobscot Bay — have seen months of hard work and dreams of a postseason berth come to fruition.

According to the final Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings, released Saturday, the Camden Hills, Medomak Valley, Islesboro, Vinalhaven and Mount Desert Island boys and Medomak Valley, Georges Valley, Vinalhaven and Mount Desert Island girls are postseason-bound.

The Georges Valley girls and MDI boys will need to play prelim playoff games to earn a spot to the tournament sites in Augusta and Bangor respectively.

The seven other local teams have secured berths directly to the tournament sites, either at the Augusta Civic Center or Bangor Auditorium.

The final Heal Point Standings, and playoff pairings, reveal:

Boys

Camden Hills (18-0, 156.6358 points) finished first, Medomak Valley (14-4, 115.5864 points) fourth, Mount Desert Island (14-4, 99.3827 points) seventh, Mount View of Thorndike (5-13, 18.3642 points) 14th, Rockland (4-14, 11.8827 points) 18th and Belfast (1-17, 5.4012 points) 19th in Eastern Class B. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

No. 7 MDI will host No. 10 Nokomis of Newport (11-7, 57.2531 points) in a prelim playoff game on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The Trojans and Warriors do not play each other during the regular season. The winner of the MDI and Nokomis contest will face No. 2 Ellsworth on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9:05 a.m. in a quarterfinal playoff at the Bangor Auditorium. MDI and Ellsworth are longtime Hancock County rivals, with the Eagles winning both games between the squads this season. The Eagles defeated the Trojans 62-54 at Bar Harbor Jan. 14 and ended the regular season with a 62-45 win at Ellsworth.

Camden Hills will play the prelim winner of No. 8 Caribou (12-6, 67.2840 points) and No. 9 Hermon (9-9, 57.7160 points) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 4:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Bangor Auditorium. The Windjammers, the defending regional champion, do not face either the Vikings or Hawks during the regular season.

Medomak Valley will play No. 5 Winslow (15-3, 105.8642 points) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1:35 p.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Bangor Auditorium. The Panthers beat the Black Raiders 47-40 during the regular season.

Searsport (4-14, 21.7593 points) finished 14th in Eastern Class C. Lee Academy (17-1, 123.0247 points) finished first in the 20-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Georges Valley (7-11, 39.60914 points) finished 12th in Western Class C. Dirigo of Dixfield (16-2, 123.9198 points) finished first in the 20-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Islesboro (16-2, 79.8874 points) finished fourth, Vinalhaven (9-6, 70.4466 points) fifth and North Haven (4-11, 8.7407 points) 12th in Western Class D. Forest Hills of Jackman (13-5, 88.6939 points) finished first in the 15-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

As fate would have it, the two Midcoast island teams will square off in a quarterfinal playoff game. That game will be Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. Islesboro defeated Vinalhaven 56-28 in teams’ regular-season finale.

Girls

Medomak Valley (16-2, 123.1481 points) finished third, Mount Desert Island (14-4, 113.1173 points) fifth, Camden Hills (9-9, 48.6111 points) 11th, Mount View (9-941.0494 points) 13th, Belfast (4-14, 19.4444 points) 15th and Rockland (1-17, 4.3210 points) 18th in Eastern Class B. Presque Isle (17-1, 161.5741 points) finished first in the 19-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

No. 3 Medomak Valley will face No. 6 Caribou (9-9, 86.5741 points) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Bangor Auditorium. MDI will face No. 4 Nokomis of Newport (16-2, 120.9877 points) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 10:35 a.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Bangor Auditorium. Interestingly, MDI lost to Nokomis in last year’s regional final. Medomak Valley does not play Caribou and MDI does not play Nokomis during the regular season.

Searsport (0-18, no points) finished 20th (last) in Eastern Class C. Calais (12-5, 104.5752 points) finished first. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Georges Valley (10-8, 57.7160 points) finished ninth in Western Class C. Hall-Dale of Farmingdale (17-1, 126-6975 points) finished first in the 20-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

The Bucs will travel to face No. 8 Old Orchard Beach (9-9, 63.9472 points) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in a prelim playoff game. The winner of that game will face No. 1 Hall-Dale on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 8:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Augusta Civic Center. Georges Valley does not play OOB during the season, but lost to Hall-Dale 70-55.

Vinalhaven (18-7, 39.7526 points) finished seventh, North Haven (4-10, 7.3810 points) 13th and Islesboro (3-15, 7.3032 points) 14th in Western Class D. Richmond (17-1, 107.5012 points) finished first in the 15-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

The Vikings will face No. 2 Rangeley (15-3, 90.4807 points) on Monday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Augusta Civic Center. During the regular season, Vinalhaven lost to the Lakers twice — 59-30 and 54-24.
