The Belfast boys swim team left the competition in its wake Friday night as the Lions won the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship at the Bath Area Family YMCA.

Belfast and Camden Hills swimmers faced off against opponents from other league schools, including Medomak Valley.

In the pool, the Lions did particularly well by earning nine first-place finishes and first- and second-place team rankings. Camden Hills finished in the middle of the pack. However, the Windjammers did earn relay and individual firsts.

The girls team scores were: Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 285, Belfast 268, Waterville 162, Camden Hills 157, Erskine Academy of South China 130, Gardiner 126 and Winslow 80.

The boys team scores were: Belfast 392, Waterville 242, Winslow 138, Lincoln Academy 125, Camden Hills 104, Erskine Academy 76, Medomak Valley 51 and Oak Hill of Sabattus 10.

The two local squads won a bundle of relay and individual races.

Individually, Belfast’s Eric Gaulin finished first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, while Taylor Ottman won the 500 freestyle and Taylor Light and Allison James were first in the one-meter diving.

The lone Camden Hills individual first-place effort came from Moira Pieri in the 100 breaststroke.
