With winter set in and spirits a little down it might be a good time to try something new. On Saturday Feb. 26, Mid-Coast Handball will host a free, open handball tournament to all interested players. The tournament will be at the Point Lookout Resort.

“We want to attract players, we want people to keep coming,” said Gerry Murphy, tournament director. “Particularly this time of year, everybody is cooped up.”

Murphy said there is stronger handball interest in the southern part of Maine but he would like to see more around the Midcoast.

The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels. However, emphasis will be on playing, not instruction. The court is a four-walled facility and the tourney will be individual, not team.

The event will start at 9 a.m. at Point Lookout’s court in the fitness center.

It is recommended participants bring gloves, eye protection and athletic attire. For those without, eye protection will be provided.
