On Tuesday, April 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Belfast Free Library will host a screening of “At Home in Waldo, Maine,” a documentary film about the choice to have a home birth in Maine and receive midwifery care. The film was created by Belfast-based documentary filmmaker Nicolle Littrell, and is part of a the film series and web resource, “At Home in Maine” that looks at the people, practices, politics and philosophies that constitute Maine’s home birth community.

“At Home in Waldo, Maine” features the Weavers, a family from Waldo who are semi-homesteaders, homeschoolers, entrepreneurs and rock’n’rollers. Integrating footage from the Weaver’s day-to-day life with their home birth, “At Home in Waldo, Maine” explores the relationship between how we live and how we birth. The film also features Morningstar Midwifery, a professional midwifery practice located in Belfast. Discussion with the filmmaker, film participants, and refreshments will follow the screening.
