The April 1st edition of the monthly Belfast Flying Shoes Contra Dance series at the American Legion Hall Post #43 has been canceled due to the April Fools’ Day snowstorm.

Those anxious to get their contra groove on will find Flying Shoes founder Chrissy Fowler hosting a dance of similar format Saturday, April 2 in the Wave Cafe of Camden Hills Regional High School, Route 90, Rockport.

The Contra-Grooving for Earth Improving benefit will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a community dance led by caller Fowler with music by The All-Comer’s Band. Fun and simple dances will be taught and both beginner and experienced dancers are encouraged to brush up on and learn new skills. All musicians are welcome to sit in.

The contra dance will run from 7:45 to 10 p.m. featuring live music by The Kitchen Hounds and calling by Fowler. The band features Tom Fowler (mandolin) and Jon Kerr (banjo and guitar) of Belfast and Phyllis Buchanan (fiddle and cello) of Brooks.

Admission for the community dance is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Admission for the contra dance is $6. Proceeds will benefit Earth Vision.

Everyone is welcome, and families are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call 322-6273 or send email to jonisles@gmail.com.
