“Recycling Abstract,” recent paintings by Eric Leppanen, is on view through the end of the month at Camden Eyeware, 38 Curtis Ave. Leppanen is a Maine artist living and working in Belfast. His interest in physics, the universe and the unknown is depicted in his abstract paintings and sculptures.

“In my experimental art, I take ideas, thoughts, colors, action, materials — add energy and let it flow. I attempt to direct its interaction with the forces of nature creating texture and depth,” he said.

Leppanen’s house paint is donated or reclaimed, and other materials used are found in nature, aside the road or any place discarded materials end up. Leppanen calls this sourcing a sort of upcycling and enjoys giving new life and purpose to discarded paraphernalia.
