MaineStream Finance, a subsidiary of Penquis, is offering Incubators Without Walls, a free business development course to anyone interested in starting a small business.

The Incubator Without Walls program helps individuals start and expand businesses with five or fewer employees. It stresses that good management, effective marketing and financial controls lead to increased profits and planning leads to business growth, profits and personal satisfaction.

The course starts Wednesday, April 20, at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center. Participants can choose to attend the day session 1-4 p.m. or the evening session 6-9 p.m. Individuals are asked to preregister online at then click on “Workshops and Trainings” and complete the registration form.

The course is supported by a grant from the Small Business Administration and a partnership with the city of Belfast, UMaine Hutchinson Center, Belfast Chamber, KWRED, Penquis, and community members.

Topics to be discussed include: Business Plan, Business Concept, Credit, Legal Structures of Business, Marketing, Record Keeping, Financials and Cash Flow, and Financing Resources.

Classes are augmented with guest speakers from the local business community, which allows participants to network with area bankers, accountants, insurance agents, web and media designers, and an array of other experts.


MaineStream Finance also offers one-on-one business technical assistance, business plan development, ideas and brainstorming, micro-lending, and general business assistance. The services are free to any micro business (one to five employees). MaineStream Finance works with start-up businesses as well as existing businesses.
